What Is a Proxy Client? Client vs Core vs Provider
Understanding the client, core and provider roles is the first step to learning proxy tools.
The core distinction
The service determines what endpoints you can reach; the client manages the connection; the core/protocol defines how traffic is established and routed. Mixing these concepts is a common source of setup errors.
What problem does it solve?
This page builds a vocabulary model instead of asking you to memorize parameters. In practice, confirm the client’s supported formats and follow current official documentation.
How does it relate to clients?
A client can support multiple cores or configuration formats, and one core can be used by multiple clients. A label such as “VLESS”, “Clash” or “sing-box” does not necessarily mean the software is the protocol or core itself.
Common misconceptions
- Assuming a product labeled “VPN” automatically secures every application.
- Publishing a subscription URL as if it were harmless.
- Ranking nodes by country alone.
- Running multiple traffic-interception clients at the same time.
